Tasting with Intention

Certified Sommelier

Becoming a Certified Sommelier with the Court of Master Sommeliers requires passing a three-part intensive examination of a candidate’s proficiency in the service of wine, theoretical beverage knowledge, and ability to blind taste. I am currently pursuing the next step on my wine journey as I prepare for the Advanced Sommelier exams.

BIIAB Whisky Ambassador

My first foray into professional beverage certification was with the Whisky Ambassador program in 2018. Since then I have strived to spread intimate knowledge of Scotch and world whisk(e)y’s through immersive and interactive learning experiences in restaurants, private venues, and homes throughout Utah.

MARCHESI DI BAROLO;

RUVEI BARBERA D’ALBA 2017

DABS Listing: $22.75

this week’s Somm Thought…

Barbera d'Alba is a beloved traditional wine from Piedmont in Northwestern Italy. Often casually mistaken for its Nebbiolo based neighbor Barbaresco, Barbera D’Alba is produced using primarily the varietal form which it derives its name— Barbera. Production regulations do however allow Barbera d'Alba to be made with a small percentage (up to 15%) of Nebbiolo of in an effort to increase its finesse and elegance of structure and fruit character.

This tannic, dry, medium+ bodied wine from Marchesi di Barolo presents a ruby primary color with undertones of purple. An aromatically expressive nose of blackberries, red fruit jam, and spicy scents of leather and toasted hazelnut lead to a well-rounded drinking experience.
